Green Chilies Queso

Ingredients

- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 12 -16 ounces green chilies, chopped
- 1 (28 ounce) can tomatoes, drained and chopped
- 2 lbs american cheese, kraft deluxe grated (do not substitute)
Recipe
- 1 variation: increase margarine to 1 stick. substitute 1 can rotel tomatoes with chilies for tomatoes (10 ounce)
- 2 in a heavy pot, saute onion in margarine until onions become transparent.
- 3 add green chilies and liquid. saute 2 to 3 minutes longer, careful to not brown.
- 4 add tomatoes and grated cheese. heat over low heat until melted.
- 5 cool slowly, stirring often to prevent film from forming. if you freeze, this will not happen when reheating.
- 6 serve warm with tortilla-style chips.
